Up in Your Business

It has been said many times and in many ways that what the world needs now is another music blog. This could very well be the blog of which the pundits spoke.

Young Galaxy - Come and See

In keeping with this mini-theme of people we know in bands.  Stephen Kamp (drummer) is the brother of one of my good friends.  We once got drunk at a bar in Guelph together.  He actually was finishing his masters degree in Physics when he was asked to play for these guys… I’d say this is a better use of time.

Jon Day - Pity (live in Montreal)

This is one of my good friends from high school. I’m pretty excited to see he is doing well. Hopefully he gets really famous someday and I can upload the video of him dressed in drag, with pencils for nipples, lip syncing to Pavarotti.

Kurt Vile - Runners Up

Miriam has met Kurt! She slept with his cousin and hung out with him in weird bushbashes in backwater Pennsylvania! I can’t believe she never told me!

I’m not super crazy about the new album but this song is rad. Kurt is a sad lost man but at least the “Yeah” at the end of the verses here suggests he is at least defiant about that sadness.

Dan

Childish Gambino - Freak Geeks

…took the ‘G’ out your waffle all you got left is your ego…

Deer Tick - Baltimore Blues No 1

After watching the show The Wire, I thought Baltimores main claim to fame was g-packs of smack, but this catchy little ditty ain’t so bad either.

tUnE-yArds - Bizness

This is a more pro, smooth, jazzy tUnE-yArds and it’s all because of her blackberry commercial bucks.  I dig the new song and am excitedly anticipating her album release and show at the Biltmore in April.

These New Puritans - We Want War

Foreboding?  maybe.  Interesting?  yes.

The orchestral segments and the digital sound - together - have created a spectacle of an album.

I might be slow on the uptake once again - but I’m just discovering Hidden.  And I like it.

You’re 30 Jonny… but 18 in our hearts!

White Denim - Some Wild Going Outward

Scruffy acoustic guitar, scrappy drums, and the soothing suggestion “don’t turn on yourself, cause you’ve got no reason to take the blame” make Dan happy.

Twin Shadow

—At My Heels

At My Heels - Twin Shadow

This song reminds me of some sort of Romeo and Juliette type scenario.  My favorite part however is the short and semi-epic guitar solo mid song.
